Asphalt Design - SuperPave: Introduction

Architect Training Course
Millions of tons of asphalt pavement are placed in the United States every year. Methods of mix design have remained virtually unchanged since the 1940Æs, despite significant changes in traffic volumes and load. Recent advantages in asphalt mix design have led to the use of Superpave for many highway projects. Superpave has been designed to overcome some of the historic problems with asphalt pavements, including rutting and cracking.

This 2-hour online course provides an introduction to Superpave, based on information from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Additional RedVector.com courses are available on other Superpave subjects. The intended audience for this course includes those involved in the design and construction of hot mix asphalt pavements, including contractors, agency personnel, and consulting engineers. This course includes a multiple-choice test at the end.

At the conclusion of the course, you will understand:

  • The background of the methods of asphalt mix design that have been historically used.
  • The causes of pavement failures, including rutting and cracking.
  • How the major components of hot mix asphalt affect the performance of asphalt pavement.
  • How variations in temperature and load conditions affect the performance of asphalt pavement.
  • The basics of testing for each of the major components of hot mix asphalt.

To comply with AIA and state requirements, all new online courses must be evaluated to confirm the assigned credit hour value. The assigned credit hour value for this course is as stated above, pending confirmation within 90 days. Please be assured RedVector.com has NEVER had a course NOT meet its assigned credit hour value after evaluation, but has agreed to abide by the AIA and state requirements regardless. RedVector.com will refund the difference in price should any online course be assigned less credit than originally estimated.
