Onsite Wastewater Treatment - Intermittent Sand Filters

Architect Training Course
This 1-hour online course describes intermittent sand filters, their applications, design and performance in onsite wastewater systems. Intermittent sand filters provide an economical choice for advanced treatment, beyond that achieved by a standard septic tank and drain field. This course is based on EPA''s Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Manual, February 2002. This course is intended for designers that have an interest in better treatment than a standard onsite system. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end.

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts of an intermittent sand filter
  • Determine the appropriate size of a filter, given the system flow
  • Determine the anticipated performance of an ISF.
